Paver Patio Build Done Right From the Ground Up

Most backyard patio jobs that fail do so because of what happens before a single paver gets laid. Skipping proper base prep, rushing the grading, cutting corners on the retaining structure - that's how you end up with a patio that shifts, cracks, or pools water after the first hard rain. We don't operate that way.

Here's what we were working with - a backyard that needed a raised patio platform built from the ground up. We started with retaining wall block to create a clean, level perimeter and give the whole structure its shape. That block work isn't just for looks. Once that foundation was locked in, the paver work came next. The herringbone pattern you see here is one of the more labor-intensive layouts to pull off cleanly - every piece has to be cut and set with care to keep the lines tight and the surface even. What we ended up with is a solid, well-structured outdoor space that's built to handle real use over time. The combination of the retaining wall base, proper grading, and tightly laid pavers means this patio isn't going anywhere.
